Academician Chen Xiangmei: Make the risk factors that are unfavorable to kidney health a household name.
CCTV News:In order to improve people’s attention to chronic kidney disease (CKD), the International Society of Nephrology (ISN) and the International Foundation for Nephrology (IFKF) jointly designated the second Thursday of March every year as "world kidney day". March 14th, 2019 is the 14th world kidney day, and this year’s theme is "Kidney Health for All".
On March 17th, more than 200 leaders, nephrologists and medical staff, including Yang Min, Vice President of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, Jin Dapeng, Chairman of Nephrology Branch of Beijing Medical Association, Chairman of Nephrology Branch of Chinese Medical Doctor Association, and Academician Chen Xiangmei, Chairman of Nephrology Committee of China Society of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, gathered in national hotel, Beijing, and read out the "world kidney day Proposal in 2019" and started academic exchanges around this year’s theme.
"Everyone enjoys kidney health" aims to further raise people’s attention to the high burden and important harm of kidney diseases around the world, improve the prevention and management strategy of kidney diseases, and call for comprehensive health coverage, prevention and early treatment of kidney diseases. Encourage people to adopt a healthy lifestyle, screen high-risk groups, ensure that patients with kidney disease get the basic health services they need, such as basic physical examination, laboratory tests, and essential drugs, delay the progress of the disease as much as possible, and strengthen advanced health care capabilities to ensure the health of the whole people’s kidneys.
However, as one of Chinese’s favorite "tonic" organs, does the public really know about kidneys? Therefore, persistent popularization of popular science is the most important work for medical staff during their stay in world kidney day, which has been done by Beijing nephrologists for 14 years. Every year, through a large number of new media publicity, free clinics, doctor-patient friendship, knowledge lectures and other forms, medical common sense and knowledge of CKD prevention and treatment are popularized to the public, so that many Beijing citizens have obtained correct knowledge of kidney disease. On March 14th this year, on the same day in world kidney day, kidney disease experts from 16 hospitals in Beijing, including xuanwu hospital of Capital Medical University, Fourth Medical Center of the People’s Liberation Army and People’s Hospital of Peking University, walked into Luhe Hospital of Tongzhou affiliated to Capital Medical University and held free clinic and popular science publicity activities. The scene was very warm. "We issued a call to the whole country, and the kidney health of the people in the city and the kidney health of the people all over the country started from this! This is what Beijing experts should do, and it is also what Beijing experts have done well and have always insisted on doing. " Academician Chen Xiangmei affirmed the popular science work of kidney disease in Beijing in the past 14 years.
Is your kidney healthy?
Academician Chen Xiangmei said in his speech at this conference that this year’s government work report clearly puts chronic diseases at the national prevention and treatment level, and our theme this year, "Kidney health for all", is to extend from disease to the concept of great health, which is very macroscopic and in line with the pulse of the times, in line with the pulse of deepening reform of medical and health undertakings, and what we should do when we enter a new era.
At present, compared with cardiovascular disease and diabetes, the popularization of chronic kidney disease in China is not extensive enough, and the medical literacy of the general public needs to be improved. They lack the awareness of actively understanding medical common sense and fail to fully understand the knowledge of preventing kidney disease in time. Moreover, the problem of "expensive and difficult to see a doctor" still exists, which makes some patients fail to see a doctor in time or have regular physical examination. These are important reasons why chronic kidney disease is not easy to be found early.
If chronic kidney disease is not prevented early, the condition will gradually progress until uremia develops; It not only damages the health and labor ability of patients, but also brings great pain to patients and even endangers their lives; At the same time, it will also greatly increase the economic burden of patients’ families and society. In fact, the low rate of early prevention and control has brought serious consequences. About 20%-30% patients with kidney disease often find that the renal function damage has developed to an irreversible level when they first visit the hospital.
But how can the public judge whether their kidneys are healthy?
In fact, it’s very simple, just a simple physical examination. Urine protein and red blood cells in urine routine can basically provide clear signals related to kidney disease.
"The key to early interventional therapy is to insist on regular screening every year. Even if there are no symptoms, it is generally necessary to screen urine routine and renal function once a year. If you have hypertension, diabetes, etc., you should check it every six months as appropriate; If you already have certain symptoms, you should go to the hospital for a comprehensive physical examination as soon as possible. " This year’s brochure of world kidney day clearly points out the ways and means.
Prevention and treatment of kidney disease starts with healthy living.
In recent 30 years, with the improvement of living standards and working conditions of Chinese people, some changes have taken place in people’s traditional lifestyle, such as excessive intake of certain nutrients (carbohydrates, fat, salt, etc.) and reduced physical activity; At the same time, work stress, mental stress, lack of sleep, smoking, alcoholism, environmental pollution and other factors have increased the incidence of metabolic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, hyperuricemia and obesity, resulting in an increasing prevalence of chronic kidney disease. In addition, drug-induced renal damage caused by drug abuse or irregular use of drugs also showed a significant increase trend.
In the academic exchanges at the conference, Professor Li Yuehong’s "What kind of harm does beauty and hairdressing do to the kidney", Professor Tu Xiaowen’s "Smoking and drinking do harm to the kidney", Professor Li Zhongxin’s "The four high protections are not in place, and the kidney is not small", Professor Xiao Yuefei’s "I don’t care if I have a cold and fever, but my kidney is hurt by improper medication" and Professor Zhou Yilun’s "What should I do to protect my kidney" are all easy to understand from the perspective of daily life.
At present, the incidence of kidney disease in China is as high as 10.8%, and there are about 130 million CKD patients in China. Looking around the world, there are about 850 million people suffering from kidney disease in the world for various reasons. CKD causes at least 2.4 million deaths every year, and it is currently the sixth fastest growing cause of death.
Therefore, Academician Chen Xiangmei suggested that "the participation of the whole people should make people fully realize that CKD is a preventable and treatable disease, understand the characteristics of common diseases, be familiar with the basic knowledge of self-management of diseases, master the skills of healthy lifestyle, and gradually enhance the awareness of disease prevention. It is necessary to change unhealthy lifestyles such as overeating, smoking, excessive drinking and lack of exercise, and prevent and control obesity, hyperlipidemia, hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia and abuse.
At the same time, experts attending the meeting also called on the whole society to pay more attention and help to CKD patients in spirit, psychology, work, family, economy and life, and strive to gradually realize the beautiful vision that everyone can master medical common sense and enjoy healthy kidneys.
