On January 17th, Meituan Research Institute released "Urban New Youth: Employment Report of Takeaway Riders in 2018", which educated Meituan platform data and 118,000 valid rider questionnaires, and disclosed in detail the real family, income, work, life and study of takeaway riders.

According to the report, in 2018, more than 2.7 million riders earned income from take-out in Meituan, an increase of nearly 500,000 over the previous year.

45% of riders receive more than 20 orders a day, and 40% of riders travel more than 50 kilometers a day, which is close to the total length of Beijing’s Fourth Ring Road.

In terms of working hours, 52% of riders work less than 4 hours a day, 39% work 4-8 hours, and only 9% work more than 8 hours.

In terms of population composition, take-away riders are mostly born in the 1980s and 1990s, 92% of them are male, and 77% are from rural areas, mainly in Henan, Anhui and Sichuan, among which 670,000 are from poor counties, covering 94% of the country’s poor counties.

It is worth mentioning that the proportion of riders with college diplomas is as high as 15%.

60% of riders are married and have children, 40% of riders’ lovers choose to take care of children and the elderly at home, 30% of riders’ monthly income is above 5,000 yuan (including 3% 8,000-10,000 yuan and 1% over 10,000 yuan), and 50% of riders are the main source of family income.

53% of riders work in this province, and Guangdong and Jiangsu all exceed 300,000 at most. Big cities like Shanghai and Beijing have significantly boosted employment in neighboring provinces, among which riders working in Beijing mainly come from Hebei, Henan and Shanxi, while riders working in Shanghai mainly come from Anhui, Henan, Jiangsu and other places.

The report also shows that more than 40% of riders paid attention to learning and improvement in the past year, among which 15% studied, 15% communicated with colleagues, 9% studied online, and 2% enrolled in offline universities/training courses.

Through persistence and struggle, 54% of riders made gratifying changes in 2018, of which 24% had money and 20% bought a house.

"Roll up your sleeves and work hard" has become the most frequently mentioned rider’s motto in the year. In addition, there are "If there is a high wind, don’t give up in life" and "Broad world, great achievements".

In 2018, in 138 cities across the country, a total of 1,000 US takeaway riders donated blood for free, totaling 400,000 ml; During the meal delivery, the riders helped save 40 lives. A total of 43 riders faced the fire and bravely put out 10 fires. On average, 4 riders rushed into the fire or helped rescue each month. A total of 5,000 riders participated in 17 disasters such as typhoons, rainstorms and mudslides or post-disaster reconstruction; Assisted the police in cracking 11 criminal cases and confronted the perpetrators eight times.

In 2018, users wrote 300 million praises and 250 million thanks for riders, among which 81 million orders told the younger brother to "pay attention to safety", 60 million orders comforted the younger brother "don’t worry", 40 million orders told the younger brother to "ride slowly when it rains" and 22 million orders told the younger brother to "keep warm in cold weather".
