"It’s so interesting and happy to celebrate the New Year like this for the first time!" On February 9th, New Year’s Eve, the "1" in Chengdu’s "1+16+N" series of urban cultural activities made a lively appearance in Tianfu New District, Sichuan. Wang Liming, a citizen of Chengdu, was very excited to attend the event. That night, more than 10,000 tourists from all corners of the country gathered around Tianfu International Convention Center Square to experience the taste of Chengdu and have a happy year in Chengdu.

On New Year’s Eve, on the shores of Lake Qinhuang, lanterns are decorated and colorful, and the lively scenes are intertwined with the full popularity to create a strong flavor of the year. The theme of the event is "Walking on the streets of Chengdu, Welcome the New Year with Tianfu Picture Scroll", which is divided into four major activities and eight supporting activities, covering the "Tianfu Picture Scroll", the drone show, the iron flower show of the non-legacy fire dragon, the 1000-family reunion dinner by the lake, and the large-scale light show of "Hua Chong Jin Guan Non-legacy Lantern Festival Carnival".

"Serve, open the table!" As one of the key activities, the "Lakeside Thousand-Year Reunion Dinner" was grandly opened in the shouts of "running the hall". There were 168 square tables with a length of 100 meters lined up and 1008 guests were seated one by one. In addition to the 159 tables reserved by the citizens, the event organizers also invited family representatives who brought warmth and warmth to the city in 2023 to attend the dinner. Among them, there are Zhao Chunyan and his wife, the sign language interpreter Niu Niu and her family who moved the whole network, Wen Jun, the younger brother of Jingdong Express who rescued the paralyzed elderly in the fire, and Chen Xiaofeng, the "Hungry" takeaway who was brave enough.

The main course of each table is a big steamer. Uncover the red cloth on the cage, and the "nine bowls" familiar to Chengdu people appear-salted boiled pork, steamed pork, steamed elbow … There are sausages and bacon on the table that cannot be separated from the New Year’s Eve. The chefs on the sidelines are busy cooking mash and jujube beer for the guests. There was a strong smell of vegetables on the scene, and a warm taste of the year flowed during the dinner. While eating traditional food, the guests enjoyed Sichuan Opera’s programs such as changing face and spitting fire, money board, Niu Jiaoqin, Sichuan Opera puppet show and so on. Children also interact with performers and feel the charm of Chinese traditional culture during traditional festivals.

Another key event, the non-legacy dragon iron flower show, invited the dragon team from Tongliang, Chongqing. This team is led by non-genetic inheritors, dancing nine "fire dragons" with a length of 18 meters each. The most eye-catching key activity is the "Shining Rongcheng UAV Show", which consists of 3,000 UAVs, with a picture span of 800 meters. Customized pictures such as Longteng Sky, Furong Blooming and "Huahua" Happy New Year are very unique in Chengdu.

Relying on the tile roof of Tianfu International Conference Center, Tianfu Digital Long Screen Lighting, one of the four key activities, displayed a "Tianfu Picture Scroll" with a length of 408 meters and a width of 26 meters and a total area of about 11,000 square meters. The theme video "Flowers are heavy in Jinguan City, and thousands of weather are flourishing" was broadcast live.

In addition, the main venue also carried out eight activities, such as "New Year’s Blessing Lantern" and "Dragon Lantern Parade", which made a lively New Year’s Eve.

Traditional skill

10 minutes of non-legacy performance, so practice.

At 23: 15 on February 9, at the Qinhuang Lake, Chongqing Tongliang’s non-legacy fire dragon iron flower show came as scheduled, and the citizens and tourists who had been waiting here for a long time boiled up.

Nine "dragons" stood in rows in the performance area, and two huge "fireball" turned round, fast and bright, as gorgeous as fireworks. At the performance site, two artists stood by the hearth with a diameter of 40 cm and a height of 45 cm. One of them scooped up molten iron and threw it into the air. The other quickly scattered the molten iron with an iron plate, turned it into iron flowers all over the sky and flew into the dragon array … Nine dragons ran, and the 18-meter-long "dragon body" lit up and danced up and down. "Wow!" There were cheers from time to time in the crowd, and the performance attracted the audience to cheer while holding up their mobile phones, and the children were put on their necks by their fathers to get a panoramic view of the wonderful pictures.

Although the performance lasted only 10 minutes, it was very enjoyable and brought the audience the ultimate visual shock.

How did this "dragon" fly into Chengdu New Year’s Eve?

The person in charge of the intangible dragon iron flower show project said: "This year is the Year of the Loong, and the dragon dance project is very festive, and the custom of dragon dance in Tongliang has a long history. After we sent an invitation to each other, we received a positive response."

"I have performed in Chengdu before, but it is the first time to perform for Chengdu citizens on New Year’s Eve. We attach great importance to it." Li Chaoguo, chairman of Chongqing Tongliang Longren Shijia Dragon Lantern Art Co., Ltd. said, "In order to present a wonderful performance to Chengdu citizens, we spent more than 20 days making props and rehearsed for more than 10 days."

"The performance form is very contrasting," said the person in charge of the non-legacy dragon iron flower show project. On the one hand, the molten iron of thousands of degrees Celsius was scattered like a fairy flower after being hit, and on the other hand, the dragon dancers went shirtless in the dead of winter, which made people worry that iron flowers would hurt people. Li Chaoguo explained: "In fact, it is very safe. On the one hand, the molten iron has cooled rapidly when it falls from the air. On the other hand, the craftsman who hits the molten iron will break the iron flower so small that it cannot hurt people. "

Of the nine "dragons" that appeared that night, 110 people participated together. Not only that, Li Chaoguo and his companions also worked hard on the layout. Li Chaoguo introduced that the new "fireball" was used as the guide for the appearance of nine "dragons", that is, two iron baskets were tied with a long rope, which contained burning steel wool, forming a petal-shaped pattern in dancing, and the "dragons" were dispatched with meteors, which was very beautiful. Each "dragon" is 18 meters long and is danced by 10 people. The "Kowloon Dance" is spectacular, and many dragon-shaped arrays such as "Dragon Dance for Nine Days", "Crossing the River" and "Raptors Crossing the River" make the momentum even more majestic.

3,000 drones shine in Rongcheng

On New Year’s Eve, with the orderly launch of 3,000 drones, the finale program "Shining Rongcheng UAV Show" at the main venue was staged in the long-awaited eyes.

"Every pattern is performed by 3,000 drones. The scale of participating drones is the largest in Southwest China, and the difficulty is unprecedented, reflecting the strong Sichuan characteristics." The person in charge of the drone show project said.

On Hanzhou Road, Tianfu New District, Sichuan, a long team of drones is arranged on the road, flashing colorful lights. With the dispatch and operation of the flight command team, all the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) took off, showing a picture of "Dragon in the sky"-a dragon ball in front, the dragon head flying with the dragon ball, the dragon body, claws and tails dancing slowly and vividly …

Subsequently, the drone team changed rose hibiscus flowers in the air, which attracted applause from the audience. After a short adjustment, buildings and streets gradually appeared in the air, and a picture scroll of the city slowly unfolded. "Park City under Snow Mountain, Happy Chengdu in Fireworks", two rows of words flashed in the night sky, which is exactly the happy home created by Chengdu people. Suddenly, cheers were everywhere.

The phoenix spreads its wings, and the divine bird turns. In the golden gear, the countdown to the Year of the Loong New Year is approaching second by second … New Year’s Eve is spent in such a wonderful experience.

How did the idea of dragon and phoenix dance come into being? How did the design and performance team do it?

According to the person in charge of the UAV show project, after receiving this task, combined with the cultural characteristics of Chengdu, the design team put forward many ideas and integrated Chengdu elements into it. The team of more than 20 people revised more than 10 drafts in one month. "Considering that the maximum power consumption of the drone battery cannot exceed 22 minutes, we have simplified the theme screen."

Liu Cairui, the head of the drone company that undertakes the performance task, said that a small drone is about 45 centimeters long and weighs about one kilogram. When designing complex action programming, the most important thing is the safe distance between drones. In the first picture, "Dragon in the Sky", a series of movements changed greatly and the rhythm was tight. It was rehearsed many times in 3D modeling, and the exact position of each plane was calculated repeatedly, and it was confirmed after assembly many times.

The picture of the giant panda "Huahua" greeting the New Year is also very recognizable. In order to make the audience recognize this as "Huahua" at a glance, the designer specially went to chengdu research base of giant panda to observe "Huahua" and collected a large number of videos of "Huahua" to study its physical features and manners, and finally locked the identification code of "Huahua".(Reporter Zhang Hongxia wrote)
